Cortizone 10

Ever had a bug bite? Ever had 30+ bug bites all over and itched like crazy? Well I have... I DO!!! My new best friend is Cortizone 10. This white cream soothes the itch and I recommend it to anyone with the urge to scratch. Oh, and I'd go with the maximum strength. Why scrape away skin cells when you could just slap some Cortizone on? DEFEAT THE ITCH!!!

P.S.
... on another note. Sometimes it's just better to avoid fields crawling with bugs in the dead of summer. xD

History Lesson- Statue of Liberty

These next few paragraphs are taken from the History Channel's "This Day in History."

June 17, 1885: Statue of Liberty arrives
The Statue of Liberty, a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States, arrives in New York City's harbor.

Originally known as "Liberty Enlightening the World," the statue was proposed by French historian Edouard Laboulaye to commemorate the Franco-American alliance during the American Revolution. Designed by French sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, the 151-foot statue was the form of a woman with an uplifted arm holding a torch. In February 1877, Congress approved the use of a site on New York Bedloe's Island, which was suggested by Bartholdi. In May 1884, the statue was completed in France, and three months later the Americans laid the cornerstone for its pedestal in New York. On June 19, 1885, the dismantled Statue of Liberty arrived in the New World, enclosed in more than 200 packing cases. Its copper sheets were reassembled, and the last rivet of the monument was fitted on October 28, 1886, during a dedication presided over by U.S. President Grover Cleveland.

On the pedestal was inscribed "The New Colossus," a famous sonnet by American poet Emma Lazarus that welcomed immigrants to the United States with the declaration, "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, / The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. / Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me. / I lift my lamp beside the golden door." Six years later, Ellis Island, adjacent to Bedloe's Island, opened as the chief entry station for immigrants to the United States, and for the next 32 years more than 12 million immigrants were welcomed into New York harbor by the sight of "Lady Liberty." In 1924, the Statue of Liberty was made a national monument.

Speaking of Ellis Island and Immigrants... watch this little clip for a laugh. Rofl 3: 07- 3:32 is my favorite part xD xD xD xD

Splish Splash Summer!

It's summer! No more school! Who's going swimming? What do you look forward to most about the summer? For me, it's the ice cream and the free time, the heat, the chance to hang out with friends with no school work hanging over your head.

What I don't like about summer is also some of my favorite things about it. Funny eh? One of my favorite things is the heat... but sometimes I don't care for it, especially when the air conditioning goes out in the house and car! Ugh, no amount of short shorts and tank tops can make it less unbearable. That is why I just love ice cream. It chills you to the core no matter how hot it is.

What I do love is the sun! It's bright and sheds light on the earth eluminating it with warm cheer! But I think it hates me. I know that's silly, but sometimes the sun just hates me. I can never get a tan! Does anybody else have this issue? Always getting burnt and are forever pink throughout the summer. Not fun at all! Then, to take the pain away you have to drench yourself in that jelly creamy stuff that sticks to your clothing and is incredibly uncomfortable. Well, here's a little trick for you burners. If you go out into the sun for a long time you know you should wear sunscreen, but when you come back in, you should take about two Advil or ibuprofen with some water. It cuts back on the swelling, and even though you'll still be a little pink, you won't feel the awful sting of the burn and you'll have a nice tan once the pink dies away! Cool huh? Now you can enjoy the heat of the day and not be miserable in your skin! :D Sunscreen and Motrin are my favorite words.

Something else I love about summers is the smell of the beach and the feel of cool water on your skin. Whenever I hear the word summer I think of a sunny, colorful, tropical beach and I get the sudden urge to dance to a Jimmy Buffet tune!
Swimming! Swimming is so fun! Kick your feet like a fish and make a splash!
Don't let the heat get to you and enjoy your summer readers! Make it a watery one! I hope you won't get too burnt and that you have an unforgettable sunny blast!

The Surprise Proposal

One of my favorite series of books is The Mandie Series. They are about a girl who is around 12 years old and they follow her (through 40+ books) all the way up to her collage years (age 16 apparently). I really enjoyed this series, and then the author dies.
Lois Gladys Leppard's books were mini mystery's and she always solved them, except for one. The Mandie and Joe Is It Going to Happen or NOT issue. Throughout the books, Mandie and her good friend Joe are depicted as liking each other, Joe a little more so than Mandie. In fact, I think Joe even tells her he loves her! He's constantly proposing to her... but she never truly gives him a definite "yes." It's always, "well, maybe, I dunno's, some day" with her.
In the last book written, Ms. Leppard introduced two new guys who also liked Mandie and she hinted that Mandie might just like them back. Well, to the faithful readers of the Mandie Series this was distressing!!! Why read 40+ books just to have Joe end up NOT marrying Mandie?!?!?! It's so sad and disappointing and then the author died and left the mystery out there unsolved. Does she marry him?
A good friend and fellow reader of mine have taken up the story and are attempting to bring the series to a good close. We're going to answer all the questions... and so far I think we have a pretty good book. It sticks to all the Mandie facts and it doesn't bring in the two new guys (we married one off and killed the other... harsh for the latter, but we needed him out of the way xD SORRY DUDE). Our book has a mystery :D and I really do think it'll come as a surprise no matter how much you think you've got it figured out... okay maybe a really good mystery solver could get. A new feature we've added is history. We're turning it into a more historical fiction where Mandie and her child hood friends go to New York City to witness the first Ball Drop of the New Years. Then, a few days later, they travel a new tunnel of the sub way!
Something else we did was take the girls out of college. All of the friends are now in their early twenties. Oh, and we do introduce a new character. She has beautiful features and a great personality.
I'm hoping our book goes really well. We're enjoying writing it and I'm wanting to be able to share it to you too. For those of you who are interested, the series is specifically called, The Mandie Series by Lois Gladys Leppard. The age range is for 6th to 8th graders, but I still loved it. Joe made it worth while and so did Jonathan. The books are small, pocket sized but very entertaining. They take place in the early 1900's, mostly around North and South Carolina. They do, however, travel across Europe, and go to New York and Washington D.C. in the books. Mandie is 1/4 the Cherokee and she's got Native American family.
Stay tuned! We'll be sharing our first draft soon, hopefully :D

Miss Lois Gladys Leppard, Rest In Peace.
